lyrics

Mother’s Plan
You’re 40 years older than me and you’ll always be, and I see a plan laid out for me. You’re trying to make it allwork out in the worst scenario, so if it all falls down like a Jenga tower you’ll know. That my children will be fed and clothed without the need for payday loans, when the only fate that could hurt me would be driven by the caution of your anxiety. Mother, don’t you hold me down. I’m alright; I’ll be just fine. Mother, I don’twant to let you down, but I need you on my side when I get tired. At Goose Fair I’d never queue to meet theoracle. Why hide in superstitions hollow? We could be both struck down by a tired trucker tomorrow. Let mehold onto good days and drown my bad day sorrows. I know it’s not easy when you’re torn between caring forme and what you’ve born. If you want to throw advice my way I’m easy and might just agree, but Mother, don’t you hold me down. I may never leave this town, but it’s okay if you’re proud of me for trying. You know I’d be arubbish lawyer; never be Prime Minister anyway.
